Using two-way radios for farm mazes

Two-way radios used during farm mazes

Have you ever ventured through a farm maze—like in a storybook? Guided only by clues, your memory and little bit of intuition, it’s never anything short of an adventure. How about a haunted hayride during Halloween? Working through a maze or hayride promises excitement, young or old. But reliable communication is essential, and like any event, proper planning is necessary to ensure fun and safety.

Tech Wholesale believes communication between organizers and staff is of utmost importance, as it can mean the difference between chaos and fun. Light-duty two-way radios can be used for uninterrupted contact and safety. These devices have become the core of many small to mid-sized businesses for their ability to bring efficiency and enhanced client experience.

Splitting up in a farm maze offers a truly unique experience. Keeping in close contact eliminates many safety concerns, as two-way radios offer easy access to organizers in case of an emergency. Similarly, while hayrides may be fun, accidents happen. Should a wagon tip over or become stuck, a light duty two-way radio would allow the user to call for help and warn others to take a different route. Armed with these light duty yet effective tools, managers, drivers, event organizers and those offering security are able to coordinate behind the scenes and deliver fun for everyone.

Featuring the best two-way radio brands to will enhance your experience, Tech Wholesale’s lightweight radios are carefully vetted for high performance. Use the Tech Wholesale Radio Finder to Determine the Perfect Radio for You

Buy your ideal two-way radio with the help of your own personal assistant! No, we’re not going to show up on the doorstep of your home or business, but our one-of-a-kind Tech Wholesale Radio Finder is the next best thing. After taking a quick quiz, this amazing tool will suggest the best two-way radios to meet your specific requirements. You can then make a side-by-side comparison of these recommended radios, decide which one’s the best for your application and order it right then and there. Here are a few key things to take into consideration.

  • Decide between family or business use. Our radios at Tech Wholesale are divided into home or business use, as the features and requirements are different for these two groups of users.
  • Name a budget. If your budget is limited, it might be best to choose a recreational two-way radio rather than a business model. You can also shop by price in most categories.
  • Check out compatibility. If you already use 1 or more radios, make sure that the new radio is compatible with current radios that you’ll want to communicate with. Not all models are compatible.
  • UHV versus VHF radios. You’ll be able to narrow your search by deciding between a UHF or VHF radio. This will depend upon where you plan to use it.
  • Where will you use your radio? Ultra-High Frequency (UHF) radios, because of their shorter waveforms, can better penetrate around obstructions and are ideal for indoor or mixed indoor/outdoor use. Very High Frequency (VHF) radios can cover a greater distance with less power, but they only work well if there is a clear line of sight without obstructions. Therefore, they’re best for outdoor use on relatively flat terrain with few buildings or trees.
  • How many groups of people will use these radios? For a family or a small company, you might need just a single channel. Larger organizations with multiple departments will likely want a radio that has 2 or more channels, so that each department can have their own dedicated channel. This allows for private communication within a department, in addition to communicating with all employees.
  • Choose the power setting. Handheld two-way radios typically use between .5-5 watts of power to broadcast a signal. Business radios are available in 1 watt to 5 watt models, while current FRS models (Family Radio Service) broadcast at .5 watts.

With our Radio Finder, finding the best two-way radio has never been easier!

10 Savvy Ways to Allocate your Leftover Communications Budget

Supercharge your two-way radio system for optimal efficiency and performance! Have you saved your company money with great bargains on radios and other business communications gear through the year? You may have some extra funds in your communication budget, and are wondering how to put that cash to the best use. Look no further! Here are 10 savvy ways to enhance your investment and get the most from your radio system. Your boss will thank you (even if that’s YOU).

  • Headsets and Earpieces – To increase productivity and add a layer of privacy to employees’ conversations, invest in compatible microphone headsets with earpieces for your existing radios. Your workers will be more efficient with hands-free communication, while internal discussions remain confidential. These are especially useful for service workers that attend to customers.
  • New Batteries - Newer model lithium-ion batteries extend the lifespan of your radios. It’s also smart to have spares on hand for a longer-than-expected work day.
  • Maintenance - Keep your radios operating at full power with regular servicing at a local radio repair shop.
  • New Antenna – Is your radio’s antenna looking a bit shabby? Does it not give you the range that it once did? The latest in antenna technology might greatly improve performance and reach. This is an easy, affordable fix.
  • Multi-Unit Charger – If it’s taking too long to get your radio fleet recharged, a multi-unit charger might be a game-changer for your business. For a large family or a business, a multi-unit battery charger lets you charge all of them at once from a single power outlet.
  • Radio Cases - Both for protection of the radio from everyday wear and tear, and for worker convenience, radio cases are a great idea. This is especially true if your employees are using their radios on potentially dangerous job sites.
  • Convert to Digital - By converting your analog radios to digital radios, you’ll be able to take advantage of advanced features and enjoy a longer lifespan and no FCC licensing fees.
  • Spare Radios for Emergencies - Sometimes “just enough” isn’t good enough, especially in an emergency, like when one stops working. If your business communications are critical, have a few spare business radios on hand, just in case.
  • Battery Fleet Management System - This useful device monitors the battery life of all your two-way radios, so that you can check them all without having to individually test each radio.
  • Maintenance Contract - Don’t wait until something unexpected happens. A maintenance contract lets you budget for necessary repairs, eliminating any bad surprises.

UHF or VHF: Which is Best for You?

If you’re not already an experienced two-way radio user, the terms “UHF” and “VHF” likely don’t mean much to you. However, in the radio world, these two options can make all the difference when it comes to choosing the right radio for your specific uses. Here are a few facts about UHF and VHF radios – and how to choose between them.

  • “UHF” stands for “Ultra High Frequency”. These types of radios have frequencies between 300 MHz and 3 GHz, and they are the most powerful types of two-way radios. These types of radios can be used indoors just as well as outdoors, and they can penetrate many types of barriers and interferences that other radios cannot. UHF radios can even penetrate steel and concrete!
  • “VHF” stands for “Very High Frequency”. These types of radios have frequencies between 30 MHz to 300 MHz, which means that they are significantly less powerful than UFH radios. Just because they are less powerful doesn’t mean that they aren’t useful, however; if you’re using your radio primarily for outdoor use in fairly open areas, these are still great options. They can’t penetrate structures or other obstructions, but they’re great for hilly or flat landscapes.
  • If you plan on using your radio for business or travel purposes, such as managing a warehouse or keeping in touch with family on a cruise, you should likely choose a UHF radio.
  • If you plan on using your radio for recreational or outdoor use, such as hiking, hunting, or music festivals, the VHF radio is the way to go.
  • If you want to maintain privacy and choose your own custom options when it comes to channel and frequency settings, the UHF radio is the one to choose.
  • If you want to stick to a strict budget and can’t afford to spend much on a radio the VHF is a great option.
  • If you don’t want to get a license to use your radio, you can really go with either option; today, there are styles of both UHF and VHF radios that don’t require a license to operate.

Protect Your Neighborhood with GMRS Radios

Whether your neighborhood already has a designated neighborhood watch or you’re looking to start your own, you’ll likely need a radio to communicate with the rest of the watchers in your neighborhood. Many people use GMRS radios for this type of protection, and if you’re looking to invest in a GMRS radio system for your neighborhood watch, here are a few reasons why these are great options.

  • GMRS radios are designed for short-distance two-way communication, so while they aren’t ideal for long-distance activities (like hiking or hunting) or group activities (like tours or workplace use), they are great for communicating with a partner on a neighborhood watch. The range between radios is usually 1 to 2 miles, while mobile units with antennas can work up to 5 miles away.
  • GMRS radios require a license for use in the US, which allows you to communicate on the channels within the Family Radio Service. While the GMRS operator must have a license in order to use the radio, the license allows the owner’s immediate family members to communicate with him or her in case of danger or emergency.
  • GMRS radios are more expensive than your standard walkie talkies or two-way radios, but that’s because they are considered a higher quality than those types of common radios. They won’t drop the connection, and they maintain much more private connections than other radios.
  • If you’re on neighborhood watch and notice suspicious activity, you can easily and privately communicate with a partner by using a GMRS radio. Before approaching the suspect or interfering with the activity, you can call for backup by alerting the other person via the GMRS radio. You can even ask your partner to call the police if you feel that the situation requires even more assistance.

Run Better Group Tours at Your Business

Whether you run a brewery or an industrial plant, there are a number of job sites that give tours to small groups. When you’re conducting a group tour, you’ll want to have a reliable walkie talkie or radio to allow you to communicate with the guests on your tour without losing the signal or losing your group’s interest. Here are a few smart tips for how to run great group tours at your business – and which products to use to make them even better.

  • Create a comfortable group. If you’re taking a group on a tour, you won’t want to bring along too many people, because this will make it difficult to hear, see, and even to walk together. Aim for a group of 10 or so people to best hold their interest and ensure that everyone can retain all of the information.
  • Make things fun. No matter what type of information you’re teaching, you’ll want to make it interesting for people to listen to. Give them the facts, but also throw in a few jokes and anecdotes, and be sure to leave time for questions at the end.
  • Use a digital receiver. To ensure that everyone is able to hear you clearly throughout the duration of the tour, use a digital receiver while speaking. Tech Wholesale recommends products like the Listen-Technologies LR-400-072 Portable Display RF Receiver, which features exceptional audio quality and convenient recharging options at a very affordable price. It operates over 17 wide band channels and 40 narrow band channels, and it has a digital display LCD screen to help monitor your selection.
  • Pick up the pace. When it comes to a good group tour, less is often more. Narrow your tour down to a few important sites, and weed out the less important areas. This will help your group to retain the most important aspects of the tour.

Hiking Radios Perfect to Keep You and Your Team Safe

If you’re setting out into the woods on a weekend hike, you’re likely looking for every possible way to stay safe on your journey. Aside from wearing the proper hiking gear and going out with a group, you may want to bring along a two-way radio to communicate with your fellow hikers and make sure that no one gets separated. These handy devices are also great to use so that you can radio for help in case of injury.

If you’re in the market for a radio to take hiking, here are the best models available at Tech Wholesale.

  • The Motorola CLS1110. When hiking, the most important factor to look for in a radio is a long distance radius. Because you’ll be out in the forest and potentially very far away from your fellow hikers, it’s essential that your radios can communicate from long distances. This Motorola model works at a distance of up to 200,000 square feet outdoors, so it’s the perfect choice for your next hiking trip.
  • The Motorola RMU2040. This affordable radio set is another great long distance option. It’s very lightweight to make it easy to carry while hiking, and it can be upgraded to include a high capacity lithium ion battery that stays charged for much longer than usual batteries. This particular model can communicate at a distance of up to 250,000 square feet outdoors.
  • Motorola RDV5100. This Motorola walkie talkie can communicate at a range of a whopping 300,000 square feet, which is a very impressive distance for long-distance hikers. This is a great choice if you’re worried about losing the connection with your fellow hikers, and it comes with a handy belt clip that makes it easy to carry with you while hiking. The lithium-ion battery is also very long-lasting, so you won’t have to worry about it dying while out on the trail.

How Heavy Duty Radios Can Keep People Safe on the Golf Course

Golf isn’t a contact sport in the same way that, say, football is, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t come with its fair share of dangers. From golf cart accidents to concussions due to a rogue ball, there are number of accidents that could happen during your afternoon tee time. There are even dangers that can occur while you’re working at a golf course, if that’s your job. Here are a few important ways that heavy duty radios can keep people safe on the golf course.

  • If you and your friends are golfing and separate into two or more groups, heavy duty radios can enable you to communicate with one another when you’re apart.
  • If you have older people in your golf game, carrying a heavy duty radio can enable you to call for help in case of an accident or injury. Physical activity puts particular strain on older people, and you’ll have much more peace of mind while playing if you know that you can rely on a radio.
  • For golf course employees doing routine maintenance, such as collecting balls or mowing the grass, it’s important to keep in contact with the rest of the staff. Provide your employees with heavy duty radios that will enable them to call for help in case of a lawnmower accident, a fall, or even a broken bone.
  • Those who are allergic to bee stings are in particular danger while golfing, since there are many opportunities to come in contact with bees while outside. Carrying a heavy duty radio is a great way to keep these players safe in case of a sting.
  • Golf course employees can also keep tabs on the course’s security by using heavy duty radios. If an employee or security guard notices something suspicious going on somewhere on the grounds, he or she can easily radio for help.

High-Tech Gardening in Your Home

For tech lovers, there’s absolutely no part of the home that can’t be improved by a bit of technology. You may think that gardening is an all-natural hobby, but with the help of Tech Wholesale, even your garden can use a bit of a tech update.

The high-tech gardener won’t want to miss out on the Parrot Pot Self Watering Plant Container, a unique and innovative device that helps to make gardening and caring for houseplants a breeze. If you think that you have a bit of a black thumb rather than a green thumb, this handy (and fascinating!) device will give your plants a fighting chance. Here’s how it works.

  • The pot itself connects to a Bluetooth database of more than 8,000 different plant varieties, so it knows exactly what type of care your particular plant requires.
  • The Bluetooth device then connects to a 2.2-liter irrigation system, which knows exactly when and how much to water your plant. No overwatering here!
  • Your Parrot Pot Self Watering Plant Container will then give you a full report on your plant’s specs, including its soil moisture, fertilizer, sunlight requirements, and even its temperature. It will also show you the amount of time before the next reservoir filling.
  • The Parrot Pot Self Watering Plant Container connects to an app on your smartphone, which allows you to access its Bluetooth database and plant profile. It will even send you alerts to show you exactly how your plant is doing!
  • Despite all of these technological advancements, the Parrot Pot Self Watering Plant Container still looks just as sleek and understated as a traditional plant pot. It features a tall, slender design and your choice of three attractive colors, and you can re-use it time and time again with different plants by simply repotting.

Advantages to Using the Nox Sleepace System

Wondering how you can improve your quality of sleep, monitor the sleep you get each night, and even make waking up each morning a little bit easier? The Nox Sleepace system may be right for you. This high tech system is revolutionizing the way that people sleep (and wake up) every day. If you’re still unsure if the Nox Sleepace system is right for you, check out these advantages to using this revolutionary series of products.

  • The Nox Sleepace system is a line of products designed to monitor the sleep you get each night and give you a full report of the quality of your sleep once you wake up in the morning. The advantage to this report is that it allows you to tell exactly how you slept each night, including when you tossed and turned and when you achieved a restful REM state, in order to make adjustments to your sleeping environment and habits.
  • The system’s light and sound features work with your body’s natural sleeping patterns (as recorded by the product itself) to create a soothing, unobtrusive program that will positively impact your sleeping conditions and help you to fall asleep faster.
  • The Nox Sleepace’s red wavelengths are proven to help raise your body’s secretion of melatonin, a natural hormone that anticipates darkness, rest, and eventually, sleep.
  • Throughout the night, the Nox system will read when you’re starting to become restless and adjust its light output accordingly. This will help you to stay asleep longer and help to stop you from waking up throughout the night.
  • The corresponding Nox Sleepace Sleep Dot Sensor even provides the wearer with a gentle sleep aid that will lull you into a restful, complete sleep state. By simply attaching it to your pillow, the Sleep Dot Sensor will communicate with your Nox Sleepace light and turn down the light once you’re deep asleep.
