Two Way Radios for Golf Courses

Two Way Radios for Golf Courses

Golf season is happening around us, and if you run or work at a golf course you probably understand the need for an open line of communication. On golf courses, staff is often spread over large areas, so face-to-face communication is not an option. Two way radios for golf courses allow staff to communicate instantly to ensure your course is running smoothly, but these radios also help increase efficiency and allow your staff and course to provide better satisfaction to your players.

Whether used by grounds keepers, wait staff, caddies, teachers, or even restaurant staff, two way radios for golf courses have every aspect of your course covered.  UHF two way radios are typically the most popular type of radio for use on golf courses, as they work great inside and out. However, a VHF two way radio coverers a much larger outdoor range, and provides clarity outdoors.  Using a VHF two way on a golf course can keep you in touch with your staff, but can also be used by players. Keep in touch with your golf buddy, and plan to meet up later when he takes too long at a hole. Cell phones are expensive and unreliable, especially in dead zones. A two way radio for golf courses will keep you in touch with your workers, buddies and help make a great time even greater. The Motorola RDV5100 is an excellent radio for use on a golf course, and will provide you with exactly what you need to build a stronger line of communication among your staff and players.

FCC rules on Walkie-Talkies

Walkie Talkie rules and regulationsWalkie-talkies are extremely useful and affordable communication tools that are great for communicating with large or small groups of people over a short distance. Using a walkie-talkie doesn’t cost a service fee like a cell-phone, making them a great economical communication device. A walkie-talkie has many practical uses and can be a great tool for hunters, campers, hikers, and even families who just want to keep in touch. However, a walkie-talkie is a radio and several Federal Communications Commission regulations govern their operation.

A  walkie-talkie operates on two frequencies, a Family Radio Service, and a General Mobile Radio Service. FRD is the lower-power and shorter-ranged frequency, functioning at up to a mile at best. The GMRS frequency operates at a much higher power and has a 5 mile range. The GMRS frequency requires an FCC license to operate. The GMRS license allows a user and his family the right to use the frequency around them. The license is good for five years, and must be renewed if the unit is being used. FCC rules for GMRS frequencies apply only to the United States, if you plan on travelling with a walkie-talkie it is recommended to check on the country’s telecommunication regulations.

UHF and VHF each have their own benefits. UHF two-way radios offer the best coverage and penetration inside buildings. VHF is great in flat open areas or around wood structures.

What about power? Power plays a big part in achieving the range and coverage you need. You want a clear, crisp signal when you’re on the job. The more power, the better the coverage.

Channels can make all the difference. It’s pretty normal to have one channel per work group. You can use multi-channels if you’re separating multiple work groups. This way, managers, maintenance, security, etc. can all have different channels for easy communication.
